How Much Does a Concrete Driveway Cost in Dublin? A Cost Guide for 2026
A concrete driveway can be one of the most economical durable surfaces, or a premium finish, depending on the type you choose. Plain, exposed aggregate and imprinted concrete all sit under the same heading but carry different costs. Here is what genuinely affects the price of a concrete driveway in Dublin, so you know what to compare.
Why We Don't Publish Fixed Prices
We don't quote a fixed concrete driveway price online because the cost depends on the slab specification and finish as much as the area. Plain broom-finished concrete, exposed aggregate and pattern-imprinted concrete are very different jobs. Slab thickness, reinforcement, jointing, the finish and the ground conditions all move the figure.
The honest price is the one we write after seeing the site, assessing the ground and drainage, and agreeing the finish. That visit and quote are free.
What Affects the Cost
Type of concrete finish
Plain broom-finished concrete is the most economical. Exposed aggregate, where the surface is washed back to reveal decorative stone, costs more. Pattern-imprinted (stamped) concrete, which is coloured and textured to mimic paving or stone, is the most involved and sits at the premium end.
Project size
Area in square metres is the main cost driver. Larger driveways have a lower cost per square metre as fixed mobilisation costs spread further.
Existing surface removal
Breaking out and removing an old surface adds machinery, labour and disposal costs. Old concrete in particular can be slower to break out than tarmac.
Slab thickness and reinforcement
The slab must be thick enough for the vehicle loading, with steel mesh reinforcement. Heavier use or poorer ground needs a thicker, more heavily reinforced slab, which uses more concrete and steel.
Sub-base and ground conditions
Concrete needs a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base. Soft or made-up ground requires a deeper sub-base, increasing material and labour. Ground conditions are assessed at the survey.
Jointing and crack control
Correctly placed expansion and control joints are essential to manage the natural movement of concrete and prevent cracking. Larger or more complex slabs need more jointing work, which is part of doing the job properly rather than an optional extra.
Colour, sealing and finish detail
Colour hardeners, release agents and sealing apply mainly to imprinted and exposed-aggregate finishes and add cost. Imprinted concrete also needs periodic re-sealing as aftercare, which is worth factoring into the lifetime cost.
Drainage requirements
Concrete is not permeable, so surface water must be managed so it does not discharge to the public road — typically with correct falls to a channel drain or soakaway. The drainage solution required affects the cost.
