For block paving, we lift the affected blocks, correct the sub-base or bedding underneath, relay the blocks, then re-sand and compact so the repair blends in. For tarmac, we cut back to sound edges, prepare the base and patch or resurface as needed. Where a whole block driveway has simply lost its joint sand and gathered moss, a deep clean, re-sand and seal can transform it without any major work. We match materials as closely as possible so repairs are as discreet as they can be.

It depends on the extent and cause of the damage. If the sub-base is fundamentally sound and the damage is limited to a section of the surface, repair makes sense. If the sub-base has failed across the whole driveway, or the surface is at end of life across most of its area, replacement is usually better value. We'll give you an honest assessment at the site survey — we're not going to push for a full replacement if a repair will genuinely solve the problem.
Recurring sinking in the same spot nearly always points to a sub-base problem — either the sub-base was inadequate when the driveway was originally laid, or something has undermined it since (a leaking pipe, a collapsed drain channel, tree roots). Just re-laying the blocks without addressing the sub-base will produce the same result again within a season. We dig down, find the cause, fix it, and then relay.
Yes, we repair sections of tarmac all the time — pothole filling, edge reinstatement, patching over utility company cuts. The repaired area will be slightly different in colour from the surrounding tarmac initially (new tarmac is darker) but this evens out over time. For large areas of damage, a full resurface is sometimes better value than multiple patches.
