A well-built wall defines a property, retains ground, and frames a driveway or patio. Walls are structural, so foundations and drainage matter as much as the visible finish — a wall built without proper footings or weep holes will crack, lean or trap water.

Retaining walls hold back soil and have to resist significant pressure, especially on the sloped sites common across south Dublin and the foothills. We build them with adequate foundations, the right block or stone for the load, and proper drainage behind the wall — weep holes and a drainage layer — so water pressure can't build up and push the wall out. Cutting corners on a retaining wall is one of the most expensive mistakes in garden construction, because failure means a full rebuild.

The finish ties the wall to the rest of the property. Rendered and painted blockwork gives a clean, modern line; brick and natural stone bring traditional character; capping stones and pillar caps add a finished detail.
